Journey Home is a 24/7, 6-bed community-based long-term transitional housing program for adults 18+, under the authority of enCompass. We provide supervised support to individuals who have been diagnosed with various psychiatric diagnoses, physical disabilities and brain injuries, and are deemed not criminally responsible. The focus is to help them achieve their goals and build the resiliency to safely transition back into the community. 

Note: Journey Home IS NOT wheelchair accessible.

Program Goals

To aid clients with their reintegration between secure hospitalization and community living by providing a safe, supportive, and structured environment.

Available On-Site Services

  • Daily living and social skills coaching
  • Budgeting and financial planning
  • Case planning, crisis planning and SMART goal development
  • Communication and advocacy skills
  • Staff support and services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year
  • Recreation opportunities
  • Opportunities to participate in cultural traditions
  • Coordinated delivery of services with Recovery Alberta and enCompass
  • Referrals to community programs including enCompass Adult Support Services
  • A safe place to call home with groceries provided

At discharge:

100% of residents were medication-compliant.
83% maintained stable mental health.
71% met their employment goals.
100% met their daily expectations and completed required chores.
83% demonstrated improvement with life skills. (2024)

Referral Details

Referrals are received through the Recovery Alberta Strata PathWays. A formal file review is conducted to determine the individual’s suitability for residency.

The file review process takes the following into account:

  • Capacity for independent living skills to function at the minimum level (ambulatory)
  • Completed programming
  • Must have demonstrated a period of stability in hospital
  • Agreement to abide by the rules/regulations of the program
  • Institutional behavior/staff safety concerns

Note: those with a history of sexual offences/known deviances are not considered for residency.
