enCompass strengthens community safety through practical and compassionate solutions, bridging concerns and perceptions with action.

Over 75 Years of Serving the Edmonton Community

Our roots date back to 1949, when we formed as a local, independent operated branch of the John Howard Society. In 2024, we became enCompass Community Safety Agency.

Today, enCompass oversees a $14M budget and relies on a staff of over 200 employees to manage a wide range of services. We are guided by a new Strategic Direction that will set the direction for enCompass for the next 3 years.

An Expanding Role

While our agency continues to play its traditional role in serving individuals who are navigating the justice system and seeking the necessary supports to reintegrate into the community, we also work to reduce the social determinants of crime and disorder.

We do this through restorative justice, specialized court support, family violence prevention, a continuum of housing and community supports for youth and cultural supports and connection.

enCompass continues to support and advocate for individuals through our services and programs – while taking a more visible role in promoting public safety through inclusivity, understanding and compassion.

Our Model

enCompass operates on a client-centred, trauma-informed model of wraparound supports. We’re committed to empowering clients to build the skills and resiliency to overcome barriers and achieve their goals

We believe that crime exists due to a series of underlying social issues (poverty, unemployment, substance addictions, discrimination, family instability and poor education). By addressing root causes, our goal is to decrease crime and incarceration as a strategy for improving community safety.
