A Referral-Based, 3-Month Supported Transitional Housing Program

Donnelly House is an 8-bed 3-month transitional housing program that is FREE for individuals 16 years of age and over who are experiencing homelessness. With a range of in-residence programs and resources, staff are able to support individulals in areas of recovery and reintegration.

Referral to this program must be made by Alberta Health Services or Recovery Alberta staff. This includes social workers, mental health therapists, addiction counsellors, OTs and physicians. Individual clients cannot reach out to self-refer.

Program Goals

  1. To provide a stabilization period while a person is transitioning between housing and/or programs.
  2. To provide opportunities for life skills and meaningful daily activities to those in the program.
  3. Relieve pressure on acute care beds in hospitals by providing individuals who are stable but still in need of ongoing care access to stable housing, structured programming and specialized support.

Who We Serve

Donnelly House accepts referrals for clients who may be:

  • Experiencing homelessness and need a residence while setting up an apartment or income supports.
  • Waiting to enter a treatment program or returning from a treatment program.
  • In need of a place to stabilize from addiction use (committed to working on their sobriety).
  • Coming from Provincial Corrections and have a plan for permanent housing.
  • Receiving discharge from acute care without permanent Housing arrangements.

Note: Donnelly House IS NOT wheelchair accessible.

A Safe Environment to Accomplish Short-term Goals

As a short-term stay program, clients must be in a phase of change where a goal can be accomplished within a 3-month timeline.

Admissions Requirements

To be accepted in the program, the client must:

  • Be able and willing to work with program caseworkers and individual professional supports.
  • Be sober at the time of admittance, and be committed to working with their sobriety (we cannot accept those in need of detox).
  • Be independent in their hygiene and day-to-day activities.
