Youth Housing First provides FREE support for youth ages 16-24 who are experiencing homelessness by assisting them to find sustainable housing and maintain housing over a 9-month period.
Program Goals
- To help youth experiencing homelessness overcome barriers to improving their physical and mental health.
- To eliminate risk factors affecting youth housing by facilitating the transition to stable housing.
- To reduce homelessness among the youth population.
Areas of Support
The team follows the Critical Time Intervention Model to best support youth to be independent. This is accomplished by using a phased approach.
Available On-Site Services
To support youth during the critical time of transition, Youth Housing First provides:
- Access to housing without preconditions to address barriers to housing
- Financial assistance for rent, for eligible participants, and housing-related expenses
- Home visits and transportation assistance
- Case planning, crisis planning and SMART goal development
- Life skills coaching
- Referral and connection to natural and professional supports
- Opportunities to participate in cultural traditions
- Career and educational upgrading information
- Budgeting and financial information
60 youth were housed, giving them a foundation to rebuild their lives and work towards a brighter future. (2024)
