Independence Apartments is a 24-bed, supervised  Community Residential Facility (CRF) owned and operated by enCompass Community Safety Agency. It is a FREE trauma-informed, client-centred program that supports our client’s journey through the justice system. 

Note: Independence Apartments IS NOT wheelchair accessible.

Program Goals

  • To facilitate and support the reintegration process. 
  • To provide a safe, structured and supportive environment.
  • To provide clients with appropriate community referrals.
  • To promote prosocial lifestyle/activities.
  • To contribute to community safety through 24-7 supervision/support.

Available On-Site Services

  • Daily living and social skills coaching
  • Budgeting and financial planning
  • Case planning, crisis planning and SMART goal development
  • Communication and advocacy skills
  • Staff support and services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year
  • Recreation opportunities
  • Opportunities to participate in cultural traditions
  • Referrals to community programs including enCompass Adult Support Services
  • Provide referrals to community programs including enCompass Adult Support Services
  • A safe place to call home with a weekly grocery allowance provided to residents

  • Indigenous Support Worker
  • Psychologist (under recruitment)

Referral Details

Independence Apartments accepts referrals from the Edmonton Area Parole Office. Residency is determined by conducting a formal file review, which determines the applicant’s suitability for residency.

The file review process takes the following into account:

  • Client’s home community
  • Completed programming
  • Engagement in Correctional Plan
  • Willingness/motivation toward release planning
  • Criminal history
  • Institutional behavior/staff safety concerns
