Charlotte*
A Drug Treatment Court graduate, Charlotte has come full circle and now works for enCompass as a client mentor. After going through the program, they realized the value of the work. Charlotte is currently pursuing a social work diploma, while still supporting current program participants through their journey. They are also heavily involved in the alumni group of the program to share their story of recovery and success!
Jeremy*
Jeremy* was without stable housing for five years. The year before connecting to The LOFT, he was living out of city shelters. When he moved to The LOFT, Jeremy participated in a culinary skills training program through the Newcomers Centre. Soon after starting this program, staff noticed a significant difference in his confidence, motivation, and sense of belonging. Jeremy would share his culinary skills with other youth living at The LOFT by cooking meals in the evening to enjoy together. Jeremy is now employed in the culinary field.
The value of employment within our housing programs is vital, especially for our youth population. We are able to provide clients like Jeremy with guidance, support, and opportunities when they find themselves in a scary and vulnerable situation. Without stable housing, this opportunity would not have happened.
John*
When John* joined Drug Treatment Court, one of the first things he told his mentor was that he just wanted to feel like a normal human being. Having grown up in the midst of alcohol and drugs, he desperately wanted to learn a new normal for himself. After successfully completing the program, he now works for enCompass as a Client Mentor and shares his story of recovery to give hope to current participants.
Krista*
Krista, a client who received help through our Family Violence Prevention Centre went on to start her own entrepreneurial venture. As baking was an important self-care tool for her, enCompass was able to provide her with new baking supplies through our New Beginnings program. This program supports individuals fleeing domestic violence situations and helps fund the setup of a new home. Krista’s self-care method quickly turned into a sweet success as she was able to start her own thriving baking business!
Mark*
While taking part in one of our youth programs, Mark, worked in tandem with his caseworker to develop his resume. To prepare Mark for interviews, his caseworker played the role of the interviewer and walked him through a series of questions. The skills Mark learned paid off in the long run, and helped him secure full-time employment.
