Position Summary:  

101st Street and Independence Apartments are Community Residential Facilities (CRFs) operated by enCompass Community Safety Agency, funded by Correctional Service Canada (C.S.C). The CRFs serve as transitional housing for high-risk federal offenders on various forms of Conditional Release and aim to provide a structured environment to support their reintegration into the community. The programs support individuals across a broad spectrum of needs, including those with complex challenges that require specialized care. These challenges may encompass mental health issues, chronic health conditions, social barriers, a history of violent or sexual offenses, and other significant public safety risks. By providing thorough monitoring, tailored interventions, and referrals to appropriate treatment and community resources, we aim to encourage positive behavior change and successful reintegration. Clients are guided in developing Crime Cycles and Relapse Prevention Plans while working towards the SMART goals they set. 

As an Occupational Therapist (O.T), you will provide comprehensive services to meet the individual needs of enCompass clients. This can include; triage, screening, consultation, assessment, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders and supports within the clients physical, institutional, cultural, and social environment. You will be the direct service provider, consultant, educator and advocate as part of the Case Management Team. You will engage individuals 1:1 or in groups to enable meaningful activities; including self-care, productivity and leisure.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide occupational therapy services to clients of enCompass Community Safety Agency 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in treatment planning, including the development of individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs. 
  • Provide information and recommendations to assist others in understanding the clinical condition and ongoing care and management. 
  • Consult and provide advice and educational services to patients.  
  • Act as a resource and provide supportive training to team members to assist in their professional development. 
  • Participate in the development of mental health teaching and resource materials. 
  • Teach residents how to use medical or adaptive equipment to overcome barriers and make life easier (for example: ergonomic office tools, power wheelchairs, kitchen utensils). 
  • Develop residents’ skills to cope with anxiety, stress, decreased energy or the normal aging process. 
  • Develop residents ‘skills to handle problems with memory, attention, organization or perception. 
  • Problem solve with residents to discover and teach new ways to perform household chores, hobbies or work activities. 

Qualifications / Skills: 

  • Master’s degree in occupational therapy 
  • Active registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) 
  • Mental health experience is an asset 
  • Experience with forensic populations is an asset 
  • Experience working with adults with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in community-based, school-based and/or day program settings 
  • Proficiency in treatment planning, goal writing, treatment evaluation and report writing 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Immediate start date.  
  • Criminal Record Check, Education Verification Check and Enhanced Reliability Clearance required.
